Congratulations to Steve Robson, winner of our 1966 Mercedes-Benz (W111) 250SE Coupe.
The Mercedes W111 Coupe. The pinnacle of German automotive luxury, engineering, and style to so many, our pillarless coupe is a rare and wonderful sight to see on the road.
Known for its smooth, flowing, and elegant lines. The W111 Coupes were the darling of many a 1960s Jet Set icon. Often seen swanning around the French riviera, these vast 2 door tourers were and still are an ageless beauty.
This particular car, a 1966 Mercedes Benz W111 250SE has got quite the history associated with it already. Built in 1966, the car was registered in the UK in 1969 where it has spent the rest of its days being adored by its previous owners. Some of whom, you may know. Famous owners of this car include the comedian David Walliams and 50 Shades of Grey novelist E L James throughout its 55 stunning years. Each of its owners have made sure that what has been needed on the car has been done, the files that are kept with the vehicle show multiple invoices for Mercedes Benz genuine parts dated all the way back to 2005. Along with that is a myriad of MOT certificates as well as invoices from Mercedes Specialists to undertake the work on the 250SE.
The car originally came fitted with the 2.5 litre straight-six, but due to an engine failure later in its life, the larger M130 2.8 litre engine was fitted, mated to the original 4 speed automatic gearbox.
The bodywork, finished in a stunning metallic blue, is smooth and vibrant. All the lines on the car are as timeless today as they were in 1966. The W111 Coupes were known for their brightwork that adorns the front, sides, and back of the cars. The chrome work on this particular car has seen some pitting and age related fade but is still in absolutely stunning condition and goes to compliment the originality and used life of the car. With the aesthetics in mind, a previous owner fitted this 250SE with the later 14 inch Baroque style alloys which come complete with matching hub caps. The hub caps are not currently fitted to the vehicle but can be installed upon this vehicleโs winners request.
Inside of the 250SE the seats and all touch points are trimmed in thick, luscious Fawn Leather which is believed to be its original interior. The seats do show signs of age with small amounts of webbing and cracking being present on the bolsters. The large, elegant steering wheel is also original to the car and gives its drive good response and feel through its aged and enjoyed grip. The wooden veneers throughout the interior show their age after years of being exposed to temperatures, weather and sunlight but this only adds to the wonderful charm of the cars all original interior.
Congratulations to Steve Robson, winner with ticket number 2913.
