Our 1971 Triumph GT6 MKIII was manufactured on October 6, 1971 and was delivered to Duff, Morgan and Vermont Limited in Norwich on October 20th of the same year. The car, finished in New White with Black trim, included Overdrive as a factory optional extra.
First registered on January 1, 1972, the vehicle underwent an initial restoration in the early 1980s, followed by a re-spray to Red in the 1990s. After changing hands twice during this time, a mechanic acquired the car in June 2003 and embarked on a thorough mechanical restoration. This extensive work included a complete engine overhaul, chassis sandblasting and powder coating, body remounting with polyurethane mounts, differential replacement, brake servo, rear wheel arches and boot floor replacements, new canvas roof, wiring loom, alternator and belt, radiator core, prop shaft and overdrive, starter motor, wheels, water pump, rear suspension, and more. A collection of photographs documenting these repairs is included in the history file.
The car’s most recent owner, who purchased it after the mechanical restoration, found that although mechanically sound, the car’s paint was in need of attention. A comprehensive and sensitive restoration was undertaken to return the car to its original white colour while keeping some original features like the bumpers to maintain its unique character. Significant attention was given to the bodywork, and The interior was completely reupholstered, including new headlining, sunroof, door cards, carpets, dashboard, and wood trim. This was completed in late 2023 and, as a result, this stunning GT6 is now ready for a new owner to appreciate. The car comes with an MOT valid until November 26, 2024, with no advisories.
The vehicle is also accompanied by an extensive history file that includes the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, a range of previous invoices and MOT certificates dating back to 1994, written records of the car’s history, photographs from the previous owner’s mechanical restorations, a USB stick loaded with photos of the recent restoration, a ‘GT6 MkIII’ reproduction owner’s manual, and a Service Training Notes book.
