Our 1977 TR7 Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) is something of a rare find thanks to the absence of a sunroof and its retention of the original 4-speed manual gearbox. In the care of its previous owner for more than a decade, the vehicle was entrusted to Ben Marshall Classic Vehicles with the aim of restoring it to one of the finest examples in the country, while avoiding the extremes of Concours restoration. The goal was to achieve the appearance and condition as depicted in the original brochure, and no expense was spared to accomplish this.
During the restoration, parts were sourced from Robsport and the Spitfire Graveyard, among others. The fuel tank was replaced, the entire car was polybushed, and both the engine and gearbox, along with the axle, were refurbished. The brakes and suspension systems were renewed, and the electrics were thoroughly inspected and updated as needed. Where possible, the vehicle’s originality was preserved, including the non-locking fuel cap, and lack of a passenger door mirror.
The interior also maintains a large amount of the original material but has been improved with new carpets, underfelt, and seatbelts installed to enhance comfort and safety. A period-accurate, push-button MW/LW radio was also fitted along with new bumper end caps and wheel trims.
Our TR7 comes with a substantial history file, corroborating its mileage, which is believed to be accurate. Around ยฃ16,000 was spent by the previous owners to bring the car up to the standard it is today. It’s worth noting that the car was rebuilt as a passion project with no expense paired instead of having a set budget.
This is a rare opportunity to own one of the best FHC TR7s, offering a genuine step back into the 1970s.
