You may recognise this fantastic classic car from one of our previous competitions. The previous winner, Lee Brown, despite enjoying the car, needs something more practical, so we decided to get the car back and give you all another chance of winning it for yourself. It needs to be said, that this is not something we usually do but, as this car is so special, we felt we had no choice but to make it available to win one more time.
Hailed as one of the finest GT cars of its day, the Porsche 944 Turbo has everything needed to make a statement. Presence, style and performance all wrapped up into one beautifully engineered package.
Our 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo is a great example of what this car can be. Finished in Guards Red with a black interior, the aesthetics of this car are truly top notch and that’s before we get into the mechanical details. Adored by its previous owners, the car has been meticulously cared for and looked after by specialists. The most recent work carried out was a full engine rebuild with upgrades to make the 2.5 litre turbocharged 4-cylinder more responsive and more powerful without sacrificing its usability and reliability. The car now makes a documented 320BHP (increased from the standard 250BHP) thanks to the newly fitted Garrett Hybrid Turbo as well as an ECU remap to bring the final torque figure to 380lbs/ft. In addition, many parts of the car’s drivetrain and running gear were upgraded to meet the newfound performance with an entirely new clutch system. To complement the increase in power, our 944 Turbo benefits from drilled discs on the front and the fitment of the Porsche M030 Handling Pack.
The car was featured in the April 2017 issue of Modern Classics magazine. When mentioning the change in performance the article said ‘’ Squeeze the long organ pedal into the bulkhead and if you’ve got three grand on the dial, there’s a kick in the back that feels the equal of the one you’d get in a modern performance car’’ The article is very positive about just how well put together and useable this classic Porsche truly is.
The car comes with an extensive history file. It documents everything from the provisional discussions of buying the car, to researching the model and upgrades to the engine and turbo, printouts from Dyno sessions and a ranking table of the highest performing 944 Turbos in the country up until that point. There is a separate plastic wallet purely for keeping the car’s expired tax discs spread across 3 overflowing A4 ring binders. Also included are the original and much sought-after Drivers Manual and Guarantee/Maintenance books specifically for the car.
The bodywork is superb, the interior is immaculate and the joy the mechanicals bring were best described by specialist JMG Porsche (responsible for most of the work carried out on the car) who described this 944 Turbo as ‘’ Awesome’’. We can’t wait for its new owner to experience just what a machine this 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo truly is.
